Dallas area homebuilders can look forward to another strong year of housing demand and job growth in 2017, according to one of the country’s top housing economists.

“Dallas continues to be one of the best markets in the country,” said Jeff Meyers, president of Meyers Research. “This is really the number one housing market.”

Meyers talked with local builders Thursday at the Dallas Builders Association’s annual show in Plano.

He said that the Dallas area and Los Angeles are the two hottest homebuilding markets and that Big D has the edge both on pricing and ease of construction.

“We are looking at solid markets throughout the U.S.,” Meyers said. “Dallas is attracting a lot of employment from California because of the fact you have affordable housing, you welcome growth and you welcome a lot of these headquarters that have moved down here.”

Meyers predicts North Texas will see job gains of 120,000 in 2017 — about the same as in 2016. Read More >
